Bradford and Bingley's branch network and its savings customers were taken over by Santander bank in October 2008. A large part of the mortgage and loan books were nationalised. Bradford and Bingley stopped offering mortgage deals to new customers at the end of 2008 .
Santander also took over the Abbey and Alliance and Leicester.
