Mineworkers Pension Scheme

There are many options for the mineworker when seeking information and advice regarding mineworkers pension schemes.

The government's Department of Energy & Climate Change lists two UK coal pensions schemes:

  • the Mineworkers' Pension Scheme (MPS) and
  • the British Coal Staff Superannuation Scheme (BCSSS)

With over 300,000 members combined, the MPS and BCSSS are two of the largest funded pension schemes in the UK. Both have undergone significant structural changes within their lifetimes, and since their privatisation in 1994 both schemes were closed to new members and contributions and became standalone trusts.

Whether you have contributed to one of these mineworkers pension schemes, a mineworker looking to start a tailored pension plan or wish to combine an existing mineworkers pension scheme with contributions through a stakeholder, personal or self invested personal pension, talk to a member of our partner's independent pension advice team. You can apply for a full pension review, and get advice on the best options for your needs through impartial advice and a free initial consultation.
